Cause and Effect Essay: On the film "Premonition"
Premonition is a film thatthrows a curveball into the outer limits of your mind. Linda is a woman who loves her husband dearly but, she has indeed forgotten how to show it and so has he. Linda is a mother of two girls; whom she loves them with all her heart. As the morning goes on, Linda finds out that her husband has died in a tragic car accident. She wakes up the next day to find her dead husband very much alive and sitting at the kitchen counter. In this essay, I will try to point out the cause and effects of Linda's actions; ultimately leading to the death of her husband.
The story starts out with Linda telling the girls that their father will be home tonight, it was only an overnight trip. Then comes the sheriff knocking on the door, he is the barer of the worst kind of news; the death of Linda's husband and the girls father. The sheriff explains how a semi jackknifed and struck her husbands car. He goes on to say, that this happened yesterday. Disheartened and distracted, with his death, she begins to feel the fog overcome her. The heart wrenching news was the cause of her distress. The effect was feeling like she was living in a fog, a dream like state of mind.
The sliding glass doors were shattered into a million slivers, by Linda's daughter. It began to rain; the girls and mom ran to get the laundry off the clothesline. Before Linda knew it, her beautiful daughter went through the glass door. Cut and bleeding they took her to the emergency room. There are two different ways to get the cause and effect in this scene. One cause is the clean glass doors and another cause is girl was not paying attention to the closed doors. The effect of this action is the girl lying on the deck bleeding, from multiple facial cuts. Consequently, another effect in fact is she will have to live with the scars for the rest of her life.
There is a point in the film that Linda realizes she wants to fight and keep her husband away from the other women. She is trying to use the premonitions to save him. They start to see that they are still very much in love; forgiving each other for all that had happened in the past. Linda follows her husband, trying to stop him from going on the deadly trip. She finds him, they both pull over, she tells him to turn around and come back to where she was parked. Then it happens, the jackknifing semi is on top of his car and BOOM. There is nothing that she could do to save him and their newly reconnected love. The premonition was the cause of her trying to save him. Linda trying to save her husband was the cause and the deadly crash was the effect.
Here we have a movie that had so many turns; it caused us to really pay attention. Therefore the effect, we are still confused. Every action that Linda took had a reaction. She cause things to happen and as a result she ultimately lost her partner in life, the father of her two children. I believe that if she had not had the premonition; her husband may have cheated on her, but he would be very much alive. I think the premonition was part of what she had to go through; either way losing her husband to another woman or to death.
